Coyle signs 6-year, $36 million contract to stay with Blue Jackets
Charlie Coyle (https://www.nhl.com/player/charlie-coyle-8475745) signed a six-year, $36 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, marking his first with them after being acquired in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche on June 27, 2025. He has 58 points (20 goals, 38 assists) in 82 games for the team, his first since making the trade.
'I've seen what we have,' Coyle said. 'I've seen our potential and I'm excited for it and it's something I want to be here for and work towards and the team we have, the depth we have, it's there. I know it's there.'
Coyle could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1. When traded last year, the team prioritized finding a right-hand center, which they did by acquiring him through the draft.
Columbus (40-30-12) finished sixth behind Philadelphia for third place in the Metropolitan Division and seventh back of Ottawa for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. Coyle expressed disappointment but acknowledged progress despite challenges.
Waddell emphasized his commitment to the team, noting his durability and passion for the organization. He stated he had no hesitation in signing Coyle through his age-40 season, highlighting his consistency over five years.
Coyle’s 1,032 regular-season games for the Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins, Avalanche, and Blue Jackets show his longevity, while his playoff contributions highlight his versatility. He missed the playoffs this season, though he remains hopeful.
